Basic Tahseen Class – Level 1
Tajweed & Tahseen
Basic Tahseen Class – Level 1 is a foundational Quranic recitation program specifically designed for beginners who want to improve and correct their recitation from the ground up.
The main focus of this class is to build a strong, accurate foundation in accordance with the rules of Tajweed, helping students avoid major mistakes (lahn jali) while reciting the Holy Quran.
## Target Audience
This class is ideal for:
Reverts/Converts or absolute beginners who are new to reading the Quran.
Muslims who can already read but struggle with fluency, stutter frequently, or lack confidence in their pronunciation.
Anyone looking to unlearn poor recitation habits and align their reading with the prophetic tradition.
## Curriculum & Core Topics
The Level 1 curriculum focuses heavily on intensive foundational practice, including:
Makharijul Huruf (Articulation Points): Learning and practicing exactly where each Arabic letter originates in the mouth/throat (e.g., properly distinguishing between Hamzah [ء] and 'Ayn [ع], or Big Ha [هـ] and Small Ha [ح]).
Basic Characteristics of Letters (Sifat): Understanding the traits of letters, such as which ones should be recited with a full/heavy mouth (tafkhim) and which ones should be light (tarqiq).
Vowels and Sukun: Mastering the consistent pronunciation of short vowels (Fathah, Kasrah, Dhummah), Tanween, and letters with a ساکن (Sukun/resting mark).
Introduction to Mad Asli (Basic Elongation): Clearly distinguishing between short vowels and vowels that must be stretched for exactly 2 counts (harakat).
## Teaching Methodology
Talaqqi and Musyafahah: The traditional method where students watch the teacher’s mouth movements, listen to the correct pronunciation, and immediately mimic it.
Hands-on Practice: The class prioritizes active, letter-by-letter and word-by-word recitation practice over heavy, complex theory.
Real-time Correction: The instructor gently and patiently corrects pronunciation mistakes on the spot to build proper muscle memory.
## Learning Outcomes
Upon completing Level 1, students are expected to:
No longer mix up similar-sounding Arabic letters.
Recite connected words in the Quran with much better fluency and less stuttering.
Be fully prepared to advance to Level 2 (which typically covers advanced Tajweed rules such as Nun Sakinah, Mim Sakinah, and longer elongations).
